I'm taking flying lessons and I've been thinking of keeping a flying journal. I then remembered that I have a blog and I thought that would be a good place to keep a record of my experiences.

I'm learning to fly in a Cessna 172/182 coversion. I stared this new journey about a month ago. So far I have logged 5.1 hours of dual instruction time and 6 hours of ground school. I purchased a few learning aids to prepare for the exam. I drive a good bit with my job so I purchases Rod Machado's Private Pilot Manual on tape. It is very helpful. I also purchased the Jeppesen Private Pilot text and Rod's written book. Finally, I picked up the Gleim questions in electronic form.

I've been working on turns around a point, slow flight, take-off, and checking out the airplane before you fly.

Flying is fun!

What's going on?

Well it has been some time since my last post. I guess since may we've done the following:

State Bar Annual meeting; office fire; yeah... office fire; wifey has a new job; working a great deal; fall; football season; golfing; lots of rain; floods; all kinds of crazy stuff!

I'm working on downloading all the picutre cd's we have onto a hard drive. Putting photos on cd's just doesn't do it for me. Amazing, you can get an entire terabyte harddrive for about a hunrded bucks from wal-mart now. I don't have that much data in my entire library, so... here we go with a photo of my pop.

April Came and Went

Well it would appear that I have been most absent recently. Spring arrived and I was preoccupied with outside events. It has been a good six weeks. The weather warmed up and we have been busy. I traveled to PA to see my friends and had a good trip. I have also been playing some golf. Its amazing what losing 35 pounds can do for the golf game. The pool opened and that is always a glorious event. I'll post more soon, off to Atlanta for a hearing later today.

Ah yes, we finally finished the siding on the gable end as you can see here. A couple things left like covering the dryer vent and a little more painting but all-in-all, it feels good to have finished this task.

Its Friday

Man has it been quite the month. We were scheduled to be in trial this week but we are appealing some of the pre-trial orders. Good times. Its nice to be home though.

We're back to work on the house this weekend! (yes, that still goes on). We hope to have the siding up by the end of the weekend. That would be exciting. then I have have the little holes we put in the roof repaired and we'll be good to go.

Appearances may be Deceiving

At work we have been talking a good bit about diversity as part of a diversity initiative. Part of that program includes an exercise where you choose which person you would rather be. This exercise forces people to choose among choices which will generate certain assumptions. Afterwards the group then examines those assumptions and talks about how they may or may not be accurate.

I inadvertently tested my assumptions the other day. It was pretty cool. I was walking out of my office when I saw two people approaching on the street. One was an Indian woman wearing scrubs and carrying a plastic bag which I assumed was her lunch. She was walking in the general direction of the hospital. The other person was an African American man, walking the other way and just wearing street clothes. The approched each other silently but when they were just about to cross paths they suddenly give each other a high-five, speak briefly with honest happiness to see each other and then they just keep moving.

I was kinda stunned. I totally assumed these people did not know each other and like I probably would, they would just pass each other silently like most others. Maybe I should start walking around town giving high-fives....

I thought that was cool.

But it snowed this weekend!!

We had a great weekend. We saw a band on Saturday night with my parents to see Moonalice featuring GE Smith of Saturday night live fame. They were great and we had a good time!

It was good they left town early Sunday morning because we went from short sleves to the picture you see here in about 12 hours. It was fun as all the neighbors were outside watching it snow. It was not so fun as I used a long spatula to scoop snow off our vehicles so we could make it to work!

Home Repair Yesteryear

I promised more pictures, so here you go. This is a photograph of our house before we demolished it. We were all on our way down to a wedding when some friends stopped to see our new house. We gave them a couple of hammers and some beer and good times ensued...at least until it was too dusty to breath at which time we re-convened at a local sea-food joint for more good times.

Each one of these ladies is now married, both have at least one kid and they are doing great. Its fun to go back and look at old pictures!

February is a Short Month

It just never seems that February has enough days go get it all done. Not that I have items that I must accomplish every thirty days but it always seems that February is over before you know it. We havee been busy this month. I finished up my hours goal for the end of January and all the spill-over seemed to hit about a week ago. There are bills to enter in the computer and the study that I had so clean just a few months ago is now trashed again. I guess that will be a goal sometime soon. As for the house, it rained most of the weekend and we didn't get to work. My work partner left to go skiing for a week and he has returned and the forecast is promising so I hope to get alot done this week.

Valentines was good. We just went to Jim Shaw's and had baskets of this and that. Speaking of food, I have to return to the nutritionist today and I am down a couple pounds but not where I want to be. I'll just have to keep moving with the diet. About 23 pounds to go. Good times.

Potential Travel Ahead

Well folks, I have bought an airplane ticket. I don't remember the last time I purchased an airplane ticket to go somewhere I wanted to go. I like to think that I'm the traveling type of person but I think its more honest to say that I prefer to stay home. I don't know that I so much prefer to stay home or if I'm just cheap or if I just have too many things to do.

All that being said, I'm going to Pennsylvania to see some old friends at the end of May. Its just a long weekend but it should be an adventure nonetheless.

In other news, I have been very busy at work. I am thankful to have a good job and to stay busy with it a something I usually enjoy. I made my hours for the last fiscal year and I'm just now getting back in a normal groove.

Things with the nutritionist are going well. I'm still at 25 pounds lost and I have another 25 to go. I took a couple weeks off but am now back on the plan.

I've Been Busy

I hope everyone is doing well. January has been a very busy month. I've been working on both the law and the outside of my house. My firm's year end is January 30 and I'm at work to be sure I meet my hourly goal. I've also been working on the house. I'm going to try and post more pictures so you can see the progress but here is something for a start. See you in February!

10 Interesting things about me...

1. I like to fix things. I've been fixing to fix my house for going on five years now.

2. My house does not have termintes. The guy came today and we got a clean bill of health.

3. All of our cars have at least 120K miles on them. That says something about me.

4. I am succeeding with this diet. From 223.3 pounds to 208 so far. We're moving along nicely.

5. That siren in the background is driving me crazy

6. I generally do not play golf in the winter time.

7. I have ripped 1/2 of the stucco off the side of the house

8. I got so busy I forgot to post this entry that was drafted on the 6th

9. I weighted less than 200 pounds this week

10. We hit up the Japanese Steak house in town. I doubt I'm below 200 right now...

New Years Resolutions?

New Year's Resolutions - Who needs em? Well as I look around the blogosphere they seem to be all the rage. I think I like the retrospective followed by the resolute so here it goes.

2008 - Where did the time go?

1. CPA License. I consider this to the the achievement of the year. It took a masters degree, passing an awful exam, and working for two years and some help to get the application in while trying to work full time but I completed it, the board approved it and I now need to get my continuing education file together.

2. The House. Still not finished. More on that later. However, this year I did make great progress in the bathroom, move upstairs so I could finish the trim downstairs, get my shop organized, and install doorknobs all through the house. That's a big start.

3. Work. This was my first full year of employment out of law school. I am lucky to have a great job where I enjoy my work and practice with a good group of people. What a difference it makes.

4. Fun. 2008 has been a fun year. We have really had the chance to meet some new people and to develop our relationships with our friends in town. I've enjoyed playing golf with many of my friends on Saturdays and I started playing some tennis as well.

5. Ending on a high note. I started a "diet" a/k/a "healthy choices lifestyle" at the first of December. My high weight at the beginning was 222.5 pounds. I weighted in at 208.4 this morning. That's a loss of 14.1 pounds. I fit in my clothes, I feel better and I have more energy. We started eating tons of fresh vegetables and being more active. It has been a great change.

2009 - Something to Look Forward To.

1. Consider obtaining another professional accreditation? I am eligible to take the patent bar exam or even another bar exam in another state.... hmmm.

2. Work? I want to continue to progress in my current position. I would like to do more activities that would advance my skill levels. I don't know if there are enough hours in a day but I think it could be beneficial to start some sort of rote memory program for eminent domain law. In short - read more materials that are substantive in nature.

3. The House. FINISH THE EXTERIOR.

4. Fun? Take more trips. See more friends who live out of town. Continue developing the relationships here at home. Work on the consistency of my golf game.

5. The high note... I think for 2009 my first goal is to stick with this eating/exercise program. It was a difficult adjustment but it is getting easier with every day. If successful, my dietitian will have me at my college weight by the end of the first quarter of this year and I think that would be amazing.

A Good Weekend

I've had a great weekend. I hope you have too. We spent the weekend at home, making meals on the "plan" and went to a couple Christmas parties. I do love a good Christmas party. Its interesting though. I've stopped consuming alcohol while I'm trying to drop this 50 pounds and it makes some interesting "cocktail' conversation. I think me not drinking makes others more un-comfortable that me. I'm fine with not drinking and while I do miss a god gin and tonic, I don't need to drink to talk to folks and hang out. It does seem that people don't really know what to do when I say I'm fine or, "I'll take a water" or "Soda and lime". Man, the looks are classic. but I must say, I'm educating my friends on what is going on and for the most part they have been very understanding.

We made some progress around the house. I'm finally prepared to work on the dormers and other parts of the exterior that need work but this week I focused on making a little oak shelf for the upstairs kitchen. I'll have to take a picture later. I have made it to match the cabinets and glued it together so there aren't any fastner holes.

You Are What You Eat

Well I'm on week two of this nutritionist diet and I must say I'm pretty impressed overall. We have never given food this much thought. Its amazing how persave our food choices can be. My nutritionist gives me a seven day a week, three meal a day plan and you pretty well have to stick to it. I've never eaten such variety in my life. I hated it for a few days (this could be because we hit 5 christmas parties last week and tried to initiate this diet but I digress). It's actually gotten to be a fun challenge to make the meals conform to the plan and be tasty!

I've lost 7 pounds, that is 3.5 pounds a week. I get hungry but I'm eating a ton of food. I bet my salad for lunch weights 16 ounces.

I eat a wide variety of things like fish, beef, chicken and even have to eat my carbs. She gave me a hard time for forgeting my bread with lunch one day. Seems that carbs help buffer protein or something like that. I've mostly stopped drinking alcohol and am required to exercise for an hour a day, all cardio, no weights. She say's we'll do weights later to keep me from looking too skinny. Overall its a pretty good deal and its nice to know that I'm losing weight and gettting the foods that I need to stay healthy overall.

Well back to work for me. I've got to hit the gym over lunch!

When it Rains, It Pours

Well the footrace known as Christmas has officially begun. We have bookings for every night of the week just about. Thankfully, we are home this weekend so we can recover. I must admit I do love a good Christmas party.

This year we will be celebrating the season in a different way. I finally went to see a nutritionist to help me lose the weight I gained in law school and well folks, try not having alcohol, butter, cream, cookies, cake, pie, etc and let me know if your holiday season feels a tensy bit different. I'm trying to adjust and this plan is as good as it gets but it is amazing how little attention I paid to what I ate. I now have a hard time just getting in a coherent order. But i am working on it and have yet to go terribly hungry just yet.

We're moving things around in the office as well. Our paralegal graciously relocated to another office so we could make room for a new attorney. It will be an exciting new year here at work.

So, in short there is much going on here at cadleized. I hope your deep fall is going well too.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

I'm excited about Thanksgiving and I hope you are too! This is a big holiday for our family and it's always fun to see everyone.

This year should be great because we finally were able to find couches for the barn. While the barn is a great place to have a dinner party, those same dinner chairs just don't get it done. However, thanks to "The Fortress", a liquidator, we now have 6 counches from some convention center in Atlanta which were deemed to old for service to enthusiastic conventionerrs. They show a bit of wear but hey, we're putting them in a bar.

So, amongst other things, I'm thankful for some old couches this Thansgiving. How about you?

First time We Froze

Well the temperatures finally reached freezing this morning. It was very cold. To me anyways.

We had a great weekend. Down to the 'Boro for a randome party and to drop off some lumber and doors. We then returned to Macon and cleaned and got caught up on a bunch of house work and maintenance. Good times.

I am still stoked about the bagging mower. Our yard was full of leaves yesterday and, walaha, 1 hour alter, no leaves and all the clippings were packed into our trash can without the need for putting them in plastic bags. Good stuff.

Our former roommate returned last night. We all had a good time having a few beers and watching to football game in what was her apartment.

Good times.

Getting back to work

Ah, what a great weekend! Wifey went out of town and boy did we party it up. I went to several clubs and it was crazy to get down here in the MActown! out of control....

Well if you beleive that I've got some oceanfront property in Arizona.....

Wifey did go out of town and I did have a good weekend. While I always miss her, its good to have her back after some quality alone time. Well, I take that back, I wasn't alone too much. Drinks with friends after work Friday, work around the house on Saturday morning, watch the Dawgs eek out a win over Kentucky Saturday afternoon with a law-school friend, more football Saturday night, do some work on Sunday morning and shoot a 98 out at the golf course on Sunday afternoon. So, I guess that's not too much alone time.

Now I'm back in the swing of thing for another week of work.

It Has Been Awhile Folks

Howdy ya'll. I hope you are doing well. Life in the Macon has been rather quiet lately. The wifey and I are adjusting to having a regulary old folks married life no room-mate. We miss the room-mate but I think we're starting to adjust pretty well. To compensate we went out and bought a big TV and moved all our furniture into the upstairs. We've been eating up there and really enjoying the new space. The idea being that I get back to work on the trim and painting remaining downstairs. I haven't been doing such a great job of that but, to that end, I've been working to re-organize my shop. I need a heater out there because it just got cold down here.

So, we don't have much furniutre downstairs but that will come soon enough.

Rainy Days

Well folks, we've moved. Upstairs. Over the weekend we got our neighbors to help us move some of our living furniture and a bed upstairs and we are really enjoying it. Its so nice to have a quiet, clean and finished space to hang out as its misting away outside.

Finally.

The Board of Accountancy accepted my application and I am now a licensed Certified Public Accountant. So very exciting.

Wifey and I went to the Marco to celebrate last night and finally were able to get the four course tasting menu. It was really, really excellent. We've been eyeing this menu every time we go in there but they normally have some kind of fish on it and wifey just doesn't eat fish. So, each time we pass until last night. Man, it was something. Four courses: (1) shrimp&arugla salad with a really great pinot, (2) beef ragu over fresh pasta with a mabec, (3) lamb and a great cabernet, (4) homemade cheesecake and frangelica, (5) peach cocktail of differnt peach alcohols combined with whipped cream and shaken.

We got 5 because our waiter wants to go to law school and, well, that's something I can talk about.

September has been a great month folks.

Munson

The great Larry Munson announced yesterday that he would not be doing the play-by-play on any more football games at the University of Georgia. Its amazing that such an anouncement can be a truly profound reminder of the things that are important in life.

For me, the memories of Munson calling the dogs hail back to listening to the radio and watching the Dawgs on the 13' color TV in my parents house while Hershel Walker was driving down the field for the score. Of Boy Scout Hiking trips where we would hike for miles punctuating the great outdoors with hoots and calls as Larry fed us the play-by-play. Of working in the yard with my dad to build some new structure or hang something from a tree while we listened to Larry deliver his rendition of the the news from Athens. Of moving off to college and driving my finger into the roof of the ceiling as we finally beat Florida in 1997 after the dark years of Donnan. Of toiling on my own home and listening to Larry call the plays as I fought my own battles with tile and plumbing fixtures.

Its amazing how one person can be so inextricably intwined with the fabric of one's life. Larry will be missed but his legend and the memories associated with him will live on for an eternity.

Thanks Larry!

Of Wedding Bells, Marital Bliss and Reoccupation of Allied Fronts

Well folks, that weekend is finally upon us. The weekend where we marry off our 'adult child' and decide what to do with her room. Well, make that apartment.

We spent the entirety of last night cleaning like mad folk so our home would be ready should the bride's family choose to decend after they arrive tonight. Our house is in the best shape its ever been in. I almost even have the masterbath finished. All the requisite fixtures work and that's more than we've ever been able to say.

I have to get the yard picked up this evening and then we're done.

Let the games begin!

Moving On

Well the explorer is moving on quite nicely. A hefty bill and we are shifting down the highway. I've even been driving the gas guzzler during the week this week to feel like I got my money's worth.

The hurricane moved on to North Carolina and we had a great time at a wonderful wedding at the Beach Club. The band was great and we enjoyed seeing some friends from law school.

A Short Week & A New Transmission

Well, not a totally new transmission, but a re-built one. $1,550 dollars later, the 2002 explorer will ride again. Thank god for the Corolla.

I'm off to Nashville tomorow for a firm event. We have a wedding down on the coast this weekend but there is a tiny hurricane brewing in the bahammas so, we'll have to wait and see how it works out. I don't think the thing is going to hit at this second but I'm not weather man.

I was reminded of my trailer-park neighbor yesterday. His name was Mr. Benny. He liked to work on lawn mowers and he and I would always horse trade to keep me in a good lawnmower in working condition. He was a good man. The guy repairing my transmission reminded me of Mr. Benny and I hope he is just as fair and does an equally excellent job. We'll find out soon enough!

Trial is Over and It's Raining

It was a successful week in Canton where one of the most attentive juries I will probably ever see found just and adequate compensation to be 223,000. The other side said it should be 65k and we said 500k so the jury more or less split the middle. However, at any one time, at least five of these good people were taking notes, paying attention and nodding along. I was really impressed that they managed to hang in there for a three day trial and then they spent almost an entire day deliberating. It's neat when the system works.

In other news, Wifey is joining the Junior League and she is riding in a trolly all day seeing the sites in the rain. This tropical storm is giving us some rain and some moderate wind. We'll take it. I need to get to work on the bills and other household matters but I thought I should deliver the good news first.

It Finally Happened

I was at a fun party last night when someone said something that no one had yet to say to me...."So, I found your blog." And all I could think is, oh really...hmmmm....

Well, its odd when someone you know finds your blog. I make an effort to put somewhat interesting stuff up here and to give a factual acocunt of the happenings in my daily life and to keep it reasonable so that if the above happens I don't come home and crank up the proverbial paper shredder.

So, after waking up at way too early in the morning, I now wonder what do people think of the blog, what do I need to explain more, etc. I just think it is rather fascinating that after 3ish years of posting someone just now told me they found this thing and well, they seemed to think I did a good job with the material they gave me.

Twitty Bird and Sylvester the Cat

So I spent the day in Atlanta yesterday. Client business in the morning, work from our office during the afternoon. Dinner with a friend. Great day.

Then I get in the car around 9 p.m. for the 90 minute ride home and the wifey calls. It appears a bird has flow into the house as the roommate's fiance exited. So, Wifey and Roommate try and catch the bird and get it to leave. After I suggested wifey use the broom to shoo it out, she said "I don't want to get that close". After hearing that, I just suggeseted they take the animals to the back of the house and leave the avian creature be.

After I arrived home, there was no sign of the bird. I swatted around under the furniture with the broom, they said they left a window open and it must have gotten out. Works for me. Let's have a drink and then go to bed.

I slept like a log only to wake up to MEEEOOWWW and SQUAAAKKK. And there's the cat on the dresser peering intently around the pool bag. (you should get yourself a pool bag and keep coozies in there). I walk over there and say, I don't see anything, the cat's being crazy and the squak must have come from outisde and proceed to head toward the shower. Wifey, not being satisfied started looking and I hear her squeel and then sure enough, there is the bird, hiding behing the picture frame.

I figured it had to be injured but just in case, I got a t-shirt and grabbed hold. Good thing for the t-shirt, it was very much playing dead so I released it outside and sure enough, NO BIRDS OR CATS WERE HARMED DURING THE FILMING OF THIS EPISODE.

Shrimp are Important to Me

I just at some leftover creole and I thought I might share my thoughts on the mighty shrimp. Well, let's preface this by saying the smell of cooking shrimp made me nausious for the first 10 year of my life. It took some time, but I have grown my appreciation for this small creature.

I grew up about 100 miles from the coast and most of the shrimp we ate came from the back of someone's truck where the purveyor of the prawn had driven down to the docks in Glynn County and would return with what were probably Jumbo shrimp for about 6 bucks a pound. Mom would by 20 pounds or so and freeze them. Of course, we'd always have a big shrimp boil and eat the fresh ones. So I developed a bit of a snobery for shrimp after I got over that weird childhood reaction. Now I find it rather easy to distinguish from Atlantic shrimp, Gulf shrimp, and imports. I remember the shrimp in norway were like little pieces of lobster. Weird.

We were at the Your Dekalb Farmer's Market last sunday and I picked up a very fortoutious set of ingreedients for what I call shrim creole. Here's my recipe

1 lb of 15-20 count jumbo shrimp
1 16+ oz can of fire roasted tomatoes
1 cubanelle pepper
1 onion
several shallots
white pepper
salt
red pepper flakes
bay leaf
Beer - I used natural light.

In a sauce pan, I combined the tomatoes (you need to be sure to go through with your hands and pick out the skins/tough pieces) and the pepper flakes and bay leaf with some beer.(bout 1/2 can). I put it on medium heat and let it start to combine and reduce. If it got too reduced, I'd add more beer along the way.

I diced the pepper, shallots, and onion and sauted them until soft in a frying pan. While all that was going on I cleaned the shrimp, leaving the tails on but nothing else, be sure to get both veins.

After it all cooked and the tomatoes tasted spicy, but not too bad, I combined everything in the frying pan. I then brought it up to simmer and added the shrimp and a little more beer, and some green onion tops for garnish. Got that hot, put a lid on it and turned down the heat so the shrimp could cook and the onion would wilt.

Serve over rice. Be sure you salt your rice. I hate it when I forget to salt the rice.

Now I'm going to pay some bills and head to the pool.

Anyways, i turned out to be the best creaole dish I've ever cooked. Give it a try.

I bet I have heard or said that phrase at least 100 times this summer. It was such a miserable summer last year. This year is not too bad.

So if you are taking the Bar Exam - good luck to you!

In other news, I'm pretty proud of myself. I came up a little short on hours when I finally figured out how we are reviewed here at my place of work but I formulated a plot an stuck to it and I think I'll hit the target number. Its always better to exceed the tartget number but let's not get too crazy here. Expecially since I only had six weeks to make things up.

Hope ya'll are doing well. We had a good 4th of July - just going to the pool and grilling hamburgers and watching some fireworks. Good times. Sory it has been so quiet around here. I'm working my butt off this month to make up my hours for the good times we had back in June. Hopefully this push will put me on the positive side for the better part of the year.

We had a great sushi dinner last night with some new friends we started hanging out with at the Bar meeting. I always like new friends.

I recently sent the following email to a great friend. Life is good. Working, enjoying friends, just went on vacation. I don't have much to complain about and hence, you haven't really heard form me lately...

I think I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum as you are actually... just about to celebrate the 6th wedding anniversary and well, I guess Wifey probably (speculating here) never thought I could get this fat. But we seem to be getting along really well and having a good bit of fun together.

Working out in the mornings three days a week and haven't gained any weight since we took the bar. That's a start. I need to start swimming regularly to burn some calories. I've taken up the tennis because it doesn't cost extra to play tennis like it does golf and the pool has opened. Life is good when you can drink beer and get made to order chicken fingers at the pool and have them delivered to your chaise lounge. (As the pool has gotten more crowded they have taken to calling you on a bullhorn...yeah, not so much)

We were at the beach for the bar convention and had a great time. Total booze cruse. I did manage to get myself elected as a rep for YLD though. We were down there for three days and really had a fabulous time. Always nice to have some subsidized time at the beach. We even went to a great CLE where judges and lawyers told "war stories". My sides hurt the next day I laughed so hard.

I've been out of my office and working from home for the past week and a half. Boss has been on vacation for that long too. I think we all just took some time off to rest up. I "worked" from home for part of last week we weren't out of town. Today is the first day back in my office since the beginning of the month. My billables will suck but it was a much needed rest. (PS - I'm doing 10 hour days to catch those billables up and the month is actually looking good.)

Life is good. I also got my CPA application in rough draft form and am trying to get it submitted. I don't know if it will qualify but I figure I owe it to myself to try. Life is pretty good. We started scheduling 2 weekends a month to work on the house. If I can get this house fiasco and CPA shenanigans behind me I'll feel like I'm really on top of things again.

So life is good. The CPA thing has turned into another post. I'll share later

Movie Night

Went and played some tennis last night; had leftovers; (PS - quick and easy enchilladas with that old el paso enchilada sauce, some leftover chicken, onions and green pepper can't be beat. I think i'll give it a shot with some of those burgers I cooked next week.)

Wifey wanted to watch a movie and I said that was fine but I wanted to finish my book. While the Lincoln Lawyer was a great read, I was glad I finished in time to watch the move. We watched Juno and I must say it was one of the wittiest, most uplifting movies I've seen in a long time. Yeah, its about a girl who is 16 and gets pregnant, but it really is an awesome movie. You should check it out.

In other news, wifey and I are going to the country club to have dinner tonight. Hmm - had I mentioned that we joined the local country club here?? Don't think so. Anyways, its not the nicest (read - most expensive) club in town but we really like it. They have a great pool, excellent tennis and golf. Also the food is pretty good. We both got free dinners for our birthdays so we're headed out to get a steak dinner and have some beverages.

This week will be a lake party for the roommate who closed on her house last weekend. Exciting times here at cadleized.

I've been so busy having fun I haven't made time for the chronicles. My sincere apologies. I assure you there have been plenty of barn parties, backhoes, and golfing, and maybe even a little bit of the LAW to go around here.

Finally getting the hang of operating the backhoe. It's a good time. I've been working quite a bit lately, but not too crazy. We had tornadoes here in our town. Power was out for a couple days. that was not fun at all. Fortunately we didn't lose a refridgerator full of groceries like many around us.

I'm working on my annual law updated for a group of convenience store owners. good times.

Weekend Update

Well, as expected it was a good weekend. I did get to go play golf on Friday afternoon. The speaker at the Bar Luncheon was good. He disproved the notion that judges who site on appellate courts must be stuffy.

Golf was great for 9 holes. Golf then proceeded to fall apart for the subsequent 9 holes. It was a beautiful day though and I have only my lack of skill to blame.

The weekend was fun. I don't really remember what we did Friday night.... really don't remember drinking... weird. Oh yeah, I didn't get back from golf till late, ate some leftovers and hung with the neighbors. That's right. Wifey's former co-workers came over on Saturday night for a grilling. After the day of organizing the tool shed.

Sunday was devoted to continued organization of the tool shed and putting casters on a table. Also, THE POOL OPENED THIS WEEKEND!!! I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW EXCITING THAT IS! (they even got new furniture. score!)

So there were also some pool-side chicken fingers involved in the quality of the weekend.

I'm Proud of my Boss Today

Dangerous as it is, yup, there, I said it. I've been working on a complicated motion for the past few days, researching it, making it to. I've been invited to play some golf later this afternoon. I emailed the boss and he said I could go.

And what does he do. Well he calls late yesterday and says we must file this motion today. The one i've barely started drafting.

So I work late, get it done and am proofreading it, knowing this is one of those situations where you send if for review at 9:00am and get no work until you've just missed your commitment.

NOT SO young grasshopper. He called at 8:15, recognized that I have a golf outing this afternoon and said he wanted to be sure we got this taken care of so I could go.

Good thing can happen. It should be a great weekend.

MY NEW CAR!! I got it last week. My father-in-law was nice enough to make a donation to my favorite charity, me, and provide me with this handsome ride.

The bottom line: it costS $40 bucks a month to insure and costs $35 per fill up versus $75 per fill up for my explorer. Saving money after just one week.

My god some red-neck trash has moved in behind us.

Not wanting my fence to get all grown up, I did some trespassing and cleaned up the property line. An, unfortunately until the summer growth hits the chinese privit, we can see these folks.

Last night I came out to tend the grill and there are these two dudes, hands up in the air, and they appear to be engaged in combat of some kind. I think, Damn, these are those people who practice martial arts down in the park and they have moved in right here...I always wondered where those people lived... WRONG!

So, Larry the Cable guy, or whatever his name was back there yells, "CALL THE LAW" which is quickly followed by "AINT NO NEED FOR NO LAW" to whit I got the cell phone of the wifey and call 911.

I don't give a shit who you are, if you got people in your back yard fighting with you, I'ma call the law.

Epilogue - the law came and I told them to hit up my "neighbors" house. I didn't hear anything else but you better beleive I set the damn house alarm.

You could call it the Summer of the Outdoors. I prefer to call it the summer I plan to paint my house. I finally went and bought some high quality paint. Don't use anything but the Benjamin Moore paint. Yes, its more expensive, but I think I've tried them all over the years and beleive me, the Benjamin Moore is by far the easiest to paint with. Try it, you'll like it.

On the expense side, its amazing how expensive this painting is. I've already spent over $100 bucks on paint and some sanding pads. Oh well, you can't have a home that looks like this assessed....

Back in the Saddle Again

Well folks, after traveling about 600 or so miles in three days, I'm finally back home. Yesterday was spent paying bills. I hate bills. I think everyone does. Since we got out of the law school and developed this phenomenon know as pay checks, I've purchased a copy of quick books and have begun to be very dilligent about paying bills on time. This has also caused me to rearrange our study area to be most conducive to family financial responsiblity.

So, you can imagine my horror when I discovered several bills that were covered in some trash and they were late. Gawd that makes for a long evening. But, I do think I got everything paid and well, the good news is that Friday is payday.

Just trying to make it through another week folks.

So folks, I'm in Birmingham on business tonight. As I post this, I'm sitting at a bar at an outback with some random ass folk. But I digress. . .

I have this gps that gets me everywhere I go but today the mount broke. I go to best buy to get a replacement and lo and behold, I'm thinkful the place is open after nine pm.

So, I start looking for my little part and after driving over 300 miles today I'm not with it. I walk roght by I get guy 1 to help and we can't find this stupid little part. They have everything else, but no part I need.

Did I mentio I had the gps on the little shelf in front of the speedometer eith the cigarette lighter behind it and it sliding all over and talking to me?

So yeah, this guy comes over and says, how long have you had it? Since christmas. Ok. And he proceeds to open a new box, had me the part and say, "don't you ever tell anybody I did that."

Sweet. Random acts of kindness are really amazing.

A damn fine weekend

Well folks, I actually had a real weekend. Yesterday I did absolutely nothing but sit and watch TV and though I can't say I could do it for more than one day in a row, it was glorious. We did make a big breakfast to share with the roommate and her finace, but other than a little cooking and cleaning, I was on the couch, with the dog.

Today has been a different story. The household finances were . . . well give yourself three years with no income and law school bills . . . now double it, and there you have us. So, I've been working to get my head around this and I've been struggling with whether to buy or not to buy the new version of quickbooks but I started with this project today and the new version of quickbooks was a worthwhile investment.

It will interface with your bank records and it makes reconciling statements a cinch. I even found some errant charges and saves some $$. I don't know that I can whole heartedly recommend the quickbooks for someone who doesn't have a sigifnicant amount of understanding of the double sided accounting system, but if you can work with it, its a damn powerful tool. Hopefully I'll have a much better understanding of our cash flows and whether or not we are actually making more than we spend here in the next couple months. I think we're doing pretty good but if you as anal as I am, you want to know where good is to the penny.

Rainy Day to Close out the Week

Well folks, no, I'm not dead. I have been traveling back and forth to the ATL for this and that. Meetings with experts, clients, and the like. Not much going on this weekend. Rest up and do some work around the house. Still trying to lose weight. I've been down five pounds for like two weeks now. I think its going to take some work to hit 210. I think i'll start next week.

So, thats about all thats going on around here. I did get a call this morning from my room-mate/tenant's boyfriends just to tell us we make excellent coffee. That is a damn good way to start the day.

I got a cold and I can't help but put up a plug for the zicam cold remedy rapid melts with vitamin C.

I think these really put a kibash of the cold, but I would have a hard time attesting to that because about twice a day I take a handful of pills that would make any good nursing home doctor proud. alleve, vitamin c, mucinex, euchanicia, and others have all contributed to this apparent victory.

Creme De Brule

Ok, here we go. I think I'm far enough though the head congesiton to write a coherent post on the creme de brule and to the matter T directly addressed in her comments the other day.

First, let me tell you that I am a huge fan of this desert which, as I understand it was developed by a monk who need a way to use the leftover yolks after making mirange. a good article can be found here. http://www.coquinaria.nl/english/recipes/05.2histrecept.htm

I myself have made the creme brule on many occasions. This is the first desert that wifey and I made in our apartment after we moved into downtown Atlanta. We have made many renditions of this favorite and I must say it is quite difficult to prepare. I always found the custard to have warmed or the toping not sufficiently crispy or there was liquid on top or the custard didn't make and you didn't have a dessert and on and on. So difficult did we find the creme brule that I know we prepared a back up on several differnt occasions.

So, when I ran into the tortious one in the Kroger buying stuff for creme brule at 11:30 or so on Saturday, I must honestly say I was skeptical. I really thought it took more time for the stuff to congeal and it seems the times we had best success was went the little pots made it to the fridge well before noon. (side note - making it the night before is fraught with peril becasue the custard often develops a tough layer on top)

So, I engaged wifey in a bit of discussion as to the liklihood of acutally having creme brule for dessert and I must say wifey thought it could be done. I was hopeful.

So, over for diner and out come these little ramikins for the creme brule. I must congratulate the tortious one on several fronts. 1) finding a real vanilla bean here in maconga. I had no idea you could get those here. I'd never seen one in person before. I thought for sure you could get one off the internet, but local procurement before the opening of the fresh market is a showing of mad skilz in deed. 2) The custard set up perfectly, nuff said. 3) The use of the brown sugar on top. Well played indeed. The brown suger caramalized easily, leaving the creamy custard below quite cool as it the proper way. Once caramalized, the brown suger gave the appropriate crunch for successful creme brule.

I'll take a few notes from that dinner party, yes I will.

Sick Day

Well I'm taking my first sick day. I hate a head cold. I just gave in, took two benadryl, slept till 9 or so and have spent the remainder of the day on the couch. Not my idea of a great day but the dog appears to enjoy the company.

It is nice to go somewhere other than my house or an expensive restaurant for a really good dinner. It is my opinion that we accomplished that last night.

Ha - I finally got this desktop computer hooked up to the internet. After failing to get it to work wirelessly, I went on ebay and ordered some kind of tester. The tester came from Hong Kong, no joke, there was a customs sticker from Hong Kong on it and it came singature required mail.

However, the little device works great and I finally have this computer on the internet for real. Hopefully I can finally finish that stuff for my CPA and I can get my taxes done.

I witnessed the most surreal thing today.

I remembered I forgot to put my 25lbs of charcoal out of the rain and I was headed back home when this Pontiac Grand Am was coming down ridge. Only, there was a whole lot of orange light coming out of the bottom of it. Was that some new effect?? No - clearly not as the dark acrid cloud of smoke would indicate it. There was a car being driven down the road and it was on fire.

I stuck my arm out the window and pointed. People were honking, and well, how do you tell someone their car is on fire?

Anyways I went home, put my charcoal up and then drove back to see what happened. I would like to think I could have pulled in front of them and stopped them from driving any further, but honestly I as so amazed all I had time to do was gesture real big.

To my releif, the lady had pulled over and gotten out of her car. The car was totally engulfed in flames, but it did't appear that anyone was injured.

What a weird thing to see on the way to work.

I have to be in atlanta tomorow for CLE for new lawyers. Really, this is a bit much but it is an excused day out of the office.

Salsburry steak dinner - its what's for lunch. It amazes me that you can have one of these tv dinners with 280 calories and about 10 ounces of food when the small snack of cheezits i just ate weiged 2.2 ounces and had 220 calories. modern food science - go figure

The mother in law was in town and I played some tennis with her and the wifey. I think i'm still a little sore but I think the tennis is pretty good times.

Work is going well. just working working working

I had a good dumb blonde moment the other day. I have benn struggling mightly with the desktop computer we have had for five years. I put a few hundred dollars into it, new memory, a wireless card, keyboard, etc and have been trying to get the wireless to work. The wireless wouldn't work, after many many calls to lynkssys so I decided to try and wire it. I plugged a wire in, which i thought was hooked up to the telephone and the thing went dead. didn't plug in, nothing. I really thought I blew it up. After panicked calls to my brother and looking for a motherboard online, I then went back in and sat there and stared at the thing. Turns out my rattling around down there turned off the power strip. What a moron.

Finally, I got the thing on the internet. Now to do the taxes!

It has been a big week

Last night I attended my first yoga lesson. I don't know if I buy into that whole - yoga, a way of life bit, but its a damn good way to stretch out. I rolled around on the floor and contorted myself but I must say the experience was very favorable in general. If you sit at a desk all day or are on your feet all day or have shoulder problems like I do, it might be worth it to spend 90 minutes or so looking gay to releive that pain.

We had a real weekend here in Cadleized land - I bought some clothes. I think i have a great idea. Get two suits with two pairs of pants each. You can wear the same suit all week and leave two coats and matching ties in your office.... that way you're always ready to go and need only wear a clean shirt and pants. why only four - Casual Friday people. show me your pieces of flair!

I also went to a great 30th birthday party where my friend Nail was totally surprised and I had some of the best fried chicken I've encountered in quite some time. Good times had in the gold rush town of Dalongah. the Smith house has some damn good fried chicken.

the champ v. Rockington

It was a helluva sport to watch last night. In one corner, weighing in at 180 pounds, you had the Champ, the contender and in the other corner, you had Rock Rockington weighing in at 275 pounds. Champ sought to go beer for beer with the larger and undermatched Rockington. Rockington was dressed like a title holder with a shirt showing a thumbs down sign and the word panties on his shirt. Also adorning the champion was a coorinating Mardi Gras Beads.

Who would have thougth that lil' Champ would match Rockington beer for beer as Rockington pulled out his meal of Popeyes chicken and biscuits and quenched his thrist with a twelve-pack of Colt 45? Who would have thought it.

But no, the end of the contest saw the Champ, in his full glory dancing to some latin music and having placed a budwise select on the mantle for each of Rockington's Colt.

Did I mention the superbowl was last night?

Well, sorry I've been away so long. I have been traveling to different Department outposts doing open records meetings. While I think it terribly unfair that the Department can come and take your property, to add insult to injury the force you to pay the expense of having your attorney travel to say, Tennille Georgia, and look through some documents and mark them and then you have to pay for coppies....as you can see this all adds up and it is not a cheap process to defend your property against the government.

I must say most of the employees of the DOT I have met are nice folks and they seem to be doing their jobs well. I've always said the state of Georgia has the best roads in the nation.

On the personal front there is not a whole lot going on. I'm trying to buy some scaffolding so I can paint my house and work on the dormers. ITs such a pain to buy stuff off craigslist. My Explorer's conneciton for trailer tail lights doesn't work and so I have to wait till the weekend to go get the scaffolding and I don't know if they will still be available then. We'll just have to wait and see. I guess I can give the guy a call today and see what's shaking.

I just settled my first case today people! It was huge. This morning, wifey was involved in a fender-bender which she may or may not have caused. This happened at approximately 9:00am. By 2:00 pm today I had the nice lady who's car may or may not have been struck by the wifey's car with a check in hand for the damage and I had a waiver of any future claims.

Yes folks, I settled my first case today. And that is something to drink to!

I went to the dentist today. I should have been a dentist. That is a helluva job. Expecially if you could find people with good tooth genetics, like, say ME.

Yes folks, I don't mean to jinx myself but I have some good teeth. I have had two fillings in my 29 years. Yet I am always afraid of going to the dentist. I can't imagine the dread if I never had a cavity at all.

However, I must say I have some good and crooked teeth. My teenage neglect in the department know as the dreaded retainer has reared its ugly head. I now have an appointment with the orthodontist to explore my options with regard to something called a "spring loaded retainer". Sounds like wearing a bear trap to me.

Singing in the Rain

Well, I'm happy to have the rain. Its rained here for three days straight now, in the state which was recently making national news about the terrible drought. Maybe that's what you need when you have a drought - national media attention.

Regardless, we have been having thunderstorms sweep through for the past 18 hours and I'm getting a little tired of the lightning and thunder because Dora is a total weeny. She is terribly afraid of storms and she just couldn't sleep and she kept going on alert stauts as if she were going to get out there in that rain and fend this thing off for us. Brought to you buy a dog who will only go pee in the rain in the case of dire emergency. And there better be grass growing on the patio because she will only walk about 2 feet in the rain before turning around.

Anyways, I planned to work on the house for my four day weekend, but that will clearly not happen. Oh well.

No, the new year has not yet arrived, but I was able to get my work done and will be off until next year. I do love being abot to say, see you next year, even though it is only a week away. God this four day weekend at home is going to be glorious.

Wifey and I don't have much planned for the holiday weekend. Its never been a holiday we celebrate too hard. However, it is a good time of the year to eat some collards. Gawd my mama makes good greens. It might be worth the drive for just her greens.

LOST for the Holidays

I've never like the television series lost, but damn if I didn't watch about 8 hours of it over the holidays. I must say, its a crazy combination of The Bold & The Beautiful, Survivor, Jurasic Park, and The Twilight Zone.

Very interesting show and if you need to kill several days, say if you are waiting for your boyfriend's foot to heal, I would highly suggest this option. There appear to be three seasons and a helluva lot of tv to watch.

In other words, we had a very merry Christmas. The mother in law and some cousins were around, so we had a houseful. Also, we had what may have been the best Christmas party EVER. Complete with band and about 125 folks. Quite a good time.

Now I just need to get season 1 of lost on dvd from the netflix...

I hope all my dear readers had a merry Christmas. It was a hectic Christmas for us as the sister's boyfriend had a bad wreck, rolled my sisters car over about six times, and most importantly, almost lost his foot.

He is coming home from the hospital today but he has had two surgeries to put the bones back together and probably has a few plastic surgeries to repair skin, muscle, and tendon. Hopefully he will be better soon. We are glad he is going to get out.

It was good to celebrate he was ok at Christmas time.

Let me say, I for one, will never shop at Ikea again. I went to the store and had a great time looking around with my friend Tiff. We looked at most all the items and had a good time checking out the merchandise. She found the bed she wanted and wrote down some notes and we went to the part of the store where they actually keep the inventory you can buy - the unassembled furnuture in boxes.

Well, come to find out, we are missing one of the three boxes necessary to assemble this bed. Being a veteran of such big box stores and having done more than one inventory observation myself, I look for the item SKU and then look for a pallet with the same lable. Finding one, I happily go get a staff member and tell them we need something pulled out of overhead. He relies, "We can't"

Can't do it - Evidently IKEA, which advertises itself as a desitination store where you can get anything in the world and they love everyone in the world has a store policy against pulling any overhead stock while any customers are in the store. That's right I said, ANY CUSTOMERS IN THE STORE

Because, we were offered the alternative to return when the store closed to get the bed. Frankly at this point in time, I'm like F- it, a $175 bed ain't worth all this, but Tiff wanted this bed, so we come back at 9:00pm and wait - we wait untill each and every person checks out and exits the store, and then, get this, some asshole comes over and tells us we need to go outside so they can pull the furniture. The forklift would be over 100 yards away, in a completely seperate room, but we have to go outside in the cold and rain and wait.

We got the bed. But I'll never go to IKEA again.

Weekends & Ladyfriends

Well it hasn't been much of a weekend. I've put in something close to a true work day each day at the office as I have a stack of discovery to answer and I really just don't want to have to deal with motions ot compel. But hey, I'm getting it done here.

In other news, we went to see the wifey's father and meet his new lady friend. She was nice. Her kids were there, they are about our age and they seemed pretty cool. They even knew someone from the 'boro. Seems that everyone knows someon from the 'boro. Life is odd that way.

I told some guy I had to work all day. He asked me if I understood what I read.. After about .023 nanoseconds hesitation, I told him I sure hoped I understood what I'd read as I have to sign my name to it and put my bar number on it. Best not screw up such things too bad.

I think the wifey and I are going to see a movie this evening. That sounds like fun.

My brother decided to buy a big ugly go-kart this weekend and I went along for kicks. Out in the adjoing county we found the go-kart. It was the property of this guy who lived in a double-wide up top a hill. Yes, there was the requisite tractor-trailer in the yard, a tractor with the hood up, and a shed where someone was working on a car.

I can't say I was really surprised until we went to take the go-kart away. Delivery was included in the purchase price, but I say we should have gotten a discount because the seller had to load his 2 small children, one older kid, his wife and his friend into the suburban to go deliver this kart 10 miles away. He was only gone for no more than an hour. It was really interesting to see.

And I thought I rolled deep.

Well folks, hello from scenic waynesboro and the lovely Jameson Inn. We are here for a jury trial before 12 good citizens of Burke County. We represent a property owner (big surprise, I know) who developed the wal-mart shopping center. While the trial has a certain allure, I must say my visit here in the 'boro has been quite nice. We have had lunch at a lovely little counter and dinner tonight was at my favorite, the Colemans Lake - TASTY FRIED SHRIMP!!

Anyways, it has been a good experience here. I'll update you soon how this thing turns out. Get excited

Well, the Dawgs beat the Tigers..the WarEagles???..the plainsmen? Well, whoever they are, we won 45 - 20. It was fun. We had great seats - yes, we actually went to a game! - and the season ticket holder had paid for the little stadium seats. Very cush - made my butt much happier to be at the game, that is for sure.

We went straight to the 'boro from there. the sibilings all had pancakes and then it was off to look at some old family furniture. I learned that my great-great-great grandaddy and he was a Captain in the civil war. Our family also lived in Fort Valley, a city south of here for several years where he was a Baptist preacher. There is a good picture of him in the family papers which, courtesy of my relative are stored at the University of Georgia. I didn't get any furniture but I did get neat framed picture of Savannah.

So, it was a good weekend for us!

Really Couldn't Ask for More

What a weekend!!! It all really started on Thursday when we settled a big case at work and ventured forth to the local Club for drinks at3:30. Dinner, paid for by the boss, and drinks, also paid for by the boss. Good times. Next morning I'm chasing the post-man down in the Walgreens parking lot for my bar results. All three members of the household pass. Very good. Come back to work, make my announcements, and ahhh - there is a paycheck waiting for me. Nice.

Wifey calls and the judge wants to take us to lunch. Venture forth for a lovely lunch, paid for by the judge. After lunch, go home and change clothes and find a set of three new white brooks shirts waiting for me that my mother bought me for no real reason at all. Notice all shirts have initials embroidered on them.

Next, meet fellow new members of the bar for drinks. Have drinks, paid for by someone who was already a member of the bar. Go to the golf course and hit golf balls. Return to drinking establishment to pick up very drunk wifey and go home to get ready for dinner.

Go to dinner at wonderful restaurant, give them the business card on which I have written my father's credit card info (with permission) and durn if they didn't take it. Leave waiter fat tip of my own $$. Get home and pass out.

Wake up on Saturday, realize we passed the bar exam and immediately wake wifey up to remind her of the same. Take dog for a walk and some fetch. Go get wifey's car from the mexican drinking establishment and thn head to Cracker Barrel for breakfast. Venture to retail mecca side of town and have some retail therapy without buying anything.

Go to friends house to watch the Dawgs. Dawgs beat Florida for the fist time in ages. South Carolina loses to Tennessee. Go home. go to sleep

Wake up - go play golf all day. Come home and rearrange some furniture, watch some TV and go to bed

Really, quite the weekend!

Ahh, I've been summarizing depositions for some time now. Its sometimes intersting work -you read the transcript of a deposition where an attorney asks someone questions and you paraphrase it. Sometimes its most aggrivating. Like when an expert bounces around or an attorney does so. However, in this paperwork extravaganze, I like to think i'm learning how to take a deposition.

Off to athens for the brother-in-law's wedding this weekend. That should be fun and give my eyes a break. Maybe I can find another picture to post.

Additionally, if you google image the word deposition - you will find no legal related pictures but much science and forensic information. I dont' recommend if you have a weak stomach.

Well folks, I'm home alone. Its been awhile since this has happened. So I've played a ton of golf, well I didn't actually play any golf but I hit a lot of range balls and I spent a more than a few minutes on the putting green. Ferris is OK

Well, we went and saw Ferris and he is ok. His trailer is totally burned out. Not that a trailer on fire can ever really be salvageable. The most distressing thing regards, well there are 2 distressing things. 1) the fire was clearly arson. Someone started a fire under the back corner of the trailer and 2) Ferris had some fire-proof file cabinets that contained his very old photos and whatnot and the fire people opened them with a fire axe. Hopefully things in there are salvageable. What a mess.

Personally, he seems to be doing ok. We all went to the Cracker Barrel and he ate all of his vegetable plate and was willing to talk about things so I see that as a good sign. Hopefully he will find more things intact than expected as he sifts through things in the coming days.

An Exciting Moment

Ahh - i don't know what it says about me, But I had a very exciting moment today. I realized that 1) I had boars head bologna in the fridge 2) I had bread 3) WE HAVE A TOASTER AT WORK. To you, this may be absolutely meaningless, or disgusting if you don't like the bolgona. However,as a small child, Ms. Ruby, the babysitter, fed us bologna on toasted bread with mustard and ketsup. I still look on these sandwiches with fondness. So, today I made myself one. Only I couldn't find the ketsup. need to put that on my grocery list

Well, I have a little phone thingy and I'm not posting or commenting or well, much of anything. I must ask that you hang in there oh faithful readers. I've been transitioning into work and previously I really enjoyed sitting down and reading blogs. However, when my computer was stolen, well my favorites were stolen too. I struggle to set all the links I had back up. Furthermore, my only computer is at work, which is connected to the big-firm-big-brother network so I'm heistant to use up their computing resources to maintain my blog. Maybe they'll finally get me a laptop and I can do this from home again.

Well folks, howdy. The sentence for the day - I NEED ME SOME CLIENTS!!! no, I don't have a bar card yet, but in anticipation of that wonderful day, I think I need to find me some clients and get some job security. If you are wanting some law type work done and want to pay for it, I am your guy. However, I expect most of my readers either 1) don't need my services as they are already similarly trianed, or 2) expecting me to give them my services for free. Where should I go to get me some clients? any ideas?

In other news, work is going well. I observed a deposition to day. Good stuff. I am working on my CPA license stuff, which I didn't realize all the work I had completed was stolen with my computer. As well as my resume. In other news, my father said I may just be an overpaid secretary and sometimes I wonder. But i do think I bring value to the proposition, whatever it may be.

The Truth About Insurance

No, it won't set you free. Gone are the days of low deductible insurance where everything you screw up is taken care of and your friendly Allstate man is there with his big ass hand to let you down safely. Not to pick on any one company, but the Rock is not such a solid place anymore.

As they tought me in that mysical place known as college, you might not want to report each and every loss that comes you way. Whenever you report a loss, you have to pay a deductible and generally your premium goes up..forever. So, I won't be reporting this loss. As a general rule, I insure against high magnitued, remote risks. The higher the magnitude, the more likely I am to file a claim. This is something I will probably do 5-10 times in my life. With 10 being a reall high number. (and yes, i'm knocking against the desk right now) However, for some low grade criminal crap, I probably will "self-insure" which means I'll eat the loss and keep paying my relatively low insurance premuims.

probably more than anyone wanted to hear on that, but people keep thinking my insurance will pay and that just ain't so.

Well, I started work last week. Its going pretty well. I like the co-workers, and enjoy the kind of work we do. What I did not enjoy was getting my lap-top and leather bag stolen yesterday in atlanta. Nor did i enjoy that the asshole knocked out the window of my co-worker who was kind enough to drive us both to this very early meeting.

so, work is going well, I'm moving through the system. and well, I don't have a laptop anymore.

Retail Therapy at No Cost

So, when the wifey and I moved into our home here, we never really unpacked all our stuff. In fact, we shoved it up in the attic and never really thought about it again. Until I had to pull a good bit of it out for the alarm installation. So, after that, we took advantage of the tenant's absence and started up the cleaning. An unknown quantity of trash later, we have so much "new" stuff.

After throwing stuff out, we started to discover stuff that was never unpacked. 7 soup bowls, ceramic vase, ceramic decorative things, the infamous red orb, wifey's foot bath, my compute flight yoke, serving piceces, pictures, you name it, it was up there. Wow. It was so much fun to go shop in your won house.

So i urge all my three faithful readers to go clean out some of those boxes you've been starring at for days (or in our case, years) on end. Clen it out, throw it away, you never know what you might find!!!
